Praise Santos McKenna, is the Founder of ComePlum, Brand Coach and Photographer, she believes that when women are resourced, inspired, and confident, they have the power to uplift their communities. As a women’s empowerment company disguised as just a regular photo studio, her primary goal is to enable our clients to view their photoshoots as a form of self-care. With a commitment to getting it done and having hellah fun, she create an empowering and enjoyable experience for all. Based in the vibrant city of San Francisco, Praise dedicates her time to inspiring others to live inspired lives.
What’s a specific event that sticks in your mind that is a big reason you decided to start your business?
Being anxious and depressed at my 9 to 5. I wasn’t sleeping, I couldn’t digest food normally, and was crying all the time. I had to accept that this job wasn’t life giving. Even though it met some of my values, it wasn’t tapping into the fullness of who I was. I needed to spend my time loving people well AND making pretty things.
What does your website do for you right now & what do you want it to do?
Gives info, converts to customers
If you could go back in time on your journey and do something differently, what would you do and why?
Be kinder to myself. Take things slowly. I feel like I dived into things 1000 percent and ignored some of my basic needs. Resisting hurry and urgency would have been huge.
What was your most difficult moment in business, what happened, how did you move through it & what do you think of it looking back now?
Breaking up with a client. She was asking for things beyond the scope we decided on, didn’t pay her deposit, and began micro-managing me. Looking back, I’m proud of myself and am grateful to have support to encourage me to do it. I also would have been more detailed in my on-boarding and trusted my gut earlier.
Do you have an email list? If so, did you start it when you launched?
Yes I have a great one now but I only started it 6 years into business. Wish I started it earlier!
What’s the most unexpected way you’ve made money in your business?
Simply asking for more money for the services we were providing. We have not because we ask not.
What do you have coming up for 2024, and how can people work with you?
Brand Opening Mastermind is a juicy group of small business owners who are committed to kick-ass in their business by building brands they and their clients love. We launch it every Spring and Fall. Also our Branding Your Business podcast has incredible tips, interviews, and opportunities for free coaching on the podcast.
If you could give your younger entrepreneur self one piece of sassy advice, what would it be?
Use your voice. People WANT to hear it.
